Breast enhancement can provide an ideal shape, size, and feel to your breasts. Age and hormone levels impact the elasticity, fullness, and firmness of breast tissue. As estrogen levels decline, skin and connective tissue becomes less elastic, causing the breasts to soften and droop with gravity. In addition, as breasts age dense glandular tissue is slowly replaced with less firm, fatty tissue.

Women with naturally firm breasts typically have more glandular tissue than fatty tissue. Most breast aging occurs after menopause, when menstruation stops (no period for 12+ months) usually around age 45 to 55. Having your ovaries removed for cancer may also cause the breasts to prematurely age.

Other common changes with breast aging include stretchmarks, drooping breasts, low hanging or downward pointing nipples, widened gap between breasts, and flattening of the upper pole (top part of your breasts). In general, the most visible parts of your breasts seen in clothing, lingerie, and bathing suits is the upper central portion. Having breasts that sit higher on the chest, closer together, and with more fullness can give a more youthful appearance to your chest.

It is very common for women to naturally have one breast that is larger than the other. Symmetry is a goal in breast surgery but minor asymmetry is not uncommon because breasts are often asymmetric to begin with and can each heal differently following surgery.

How Do I Choose the Best Breast Implants?
If you’re considering breast augmentation, the most popular option uses breast implants. You probably know that both saline and silicone breast implant models are available. But there are actually many more particulars to consider. At B.A.E. Plastic Surgery, your breast implant options include:

  • Silicone breast implants: This implant type has an outer silicone shell with a softer silicone gel within.

What Is Involved with a Mommy Makeover?
Many women considering breast enhancement have other areas of their face and body they may want to address at the same time. This is commonly known as a “mommy makeover” but it is not exclusively reserved for mothers, and every one of these combination surgeries is uniquely tailored to a woman’s individual needs and goals. Dr. Pourtaheri will spend the time during your consultation to understand what you want to look and feel like after surgery. Combining breast enhancement with a tummy tuck, liposuction, or even a facial rejuvenation procedure can be a great option for many women.

Will I Need a Breast Lift with My Breast Augmentation?
While there is no hard and fast rule about when a breast augmentation should be combined with a breast lift (also known as mastopexy augmentation), a breast lift is usually a good option when a woman’s nipples sit below the breast crease. In these cases, adding volume to the breast will likely cause the breasts to look like they are positioned too low on the chest wall. Thankfully, a breast lift can easily be combined with implants in a single surgery. However, if you are planning to have natural breast augmentation with fat grafting, that can be performed after a breast lift.

What Type of Anesthesia Is Used?
Breast enhancement procedures require general anesthesia, meaning you will be safely and comfortably sedated throughout the procedure. Does Non-Surgical Breast Enhancement Really Work?
It all depends on what type of enhancement you are talking about. Breast enlarging pills and creams simply do not work and none of these “quick fix” options are worthwhile. This technique involves extracting fat from another area of the body (such as the hips or thighs), specially preparing it, and then reinjecting it into the breasts without any incisions or scars.
