As with any elective cosmetic surgery, active smokers should avoid these procedures until you have quit smoking for at least 4 weeks, as the risk of wound healing complications is much higher and not worth it.

Your Consultation Appointment

Before your first visit, you will be asked to complete an intake form to document your personal and medical history, prior surgeries, medications, and allergies. At your visit we will review your goals and concerns. We will also want to learn more specifically about any prior body procedures you have undergone including less-invasive procedures like liposuction and non-surgical fat destruction (i.e. CoolSculpting, radio frequency / EMsculpt).

You may bring in photos of other people’s bodies that you like to help us understand your goals. Try to select photos of people with a similar overall frame to yours.

We will examine your body from various angles to ensure we take into account the surrounding areas to maximize your body appearance after surgery. More about Liposuction

Excess fatty tissue can detract from the natural form of your body. We all have beautiful muscles but they can be hidden beneath layers of fat. Abdominal etching and other forms of liposuction are offered by many plastic surgeons (and some non-plastic surgeons) but they are not all the same. Different techniques means you can achieve different results but also experience different risks.

At Bay Area Esthetics we believe in performing thorough liposuction using the SAFE technique with a 360° approach whenever possible so that our patients can enjoy dramatic smooth results with minimal risk of contour deformities. Below is a list of the main liposuction services that we offer our patients:

High-definition liposuction – For patients looking for well-defined borders around your muscles we provide precision liposuction using a SAFE technique to give you high-definition with minimal risk of scarring or other contour irregularities. This technique is best for patients who are relatively fit and want to achieve more definition. For patients with extremely low body fat, we do not recommend this procedure as the benefits will be minimal. In the abdominal area we use this technique to outline your midline and abdominal borders or help reveal your six pack to show off all the hard work you have been doing in the gym. Similarly, we recommend high-definition liposuction of the lower back and posterior thighs to help accentuate your buttock region, especially when combined with a butt lift. We can also perform high-definition liposuction to highlight large muscles like the pecs or deltoids. High-definition liposuction around the knees may also benefit some patients.
Abdominal 360° liposuction – We go the extra mile when it comes to liposculpture to maximize your long-term body shape. We break up and remove fat all the way from your front to your back with a tapering and feathering SAFE technique to give you nice curves with smooth transitions all the way around. We know that patients can fluctuate in weight from time to time. We have seen many patients who underwent liposuction elsewhere and when they gained weight, the areas that were not appropriately sculpted began to grow disproportionately. Sculpting / tapering your fat all the way around is one of the many ways we try to help you enjoy your results for your lifetime.
Upper body 360° liposuction – Similar to our technique for the abdomen, we perform circumferential liposuction of the chest, armpits, and upper back to provide well-defined pecs in men and outstanding breasts in women. You may not notice it without a mirror, but sculpting the fat all the way to your back can also help prevent bulges from forming while wearing bras and bathing suits.
Flank liposuction – For patients who have nice abs and don’t need our full 360° liposculpture, we can target the love-handles specifically to provide you with an hour-glass figure for women or V-shaped torso for men. The skin in this area tends to retract better than other areas of the body which helps. By following our post-operative instructions we can teach you how to maintain your beautiful results for a very long time.
Thigh or arm liposuction – In younger patients with elastic skin that contracts well, liposuction can help give your limbs a toned look. We also offer high-definition liposuction to these areas if you are looking to show off your muscle definition. If you need a lot of fat removed, particularly in patients over the age of 40, combining liposuction with skin excision such as an arm lift or thigh lift may be needed to optimally tighten the skin.
Liposuction of the face and neck. The below chin fat is a common area where cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting) does not work well. Liposuction to these areas can be your best option to remove this fat and clean up your jaw line.

Liposuction Recovery

After the operating room, you will be taken to a recovery area to be cared for. You may go home the same day or recover in the hospital if you have extensive work done. You will have a supportive garment and perhaps other supportive dressings. We may offer longer-acting numbing medication to help speed up your recovery. We let you start showering the next day and most patients can return to work several days after surgery.

Antibiotics are generally given on the day of surgery and are given after surgery in some patients. We find that many of our patients do not need traditional opioid narcotics after surgery and do well with Tylenol and non-drowsy pain medications. After surgery, you will have bruising and soreness for several days. Regular walking is encouraged to prevent blood clots, starting the morning after surgery. It can help to limit strenuous exercise or high-impact activities for 1 to 2 weeks.

We generally like to check on you in person the week after surgery. We will schedule additional visits to check on your healing progress, which can be done virtually if you live out of town. Healing takes time and your body shape will continue to improve over the next several months as you wear your compression garments. You will receive after-care instructions before and after your surgery and have plenty of time to ask questions.
